WPHS Librarian, Mrs. Harris recently attended a conference in Houston, TX. While there she got to listen to and even meet several notable authors, including Harlan Coben.

The UIL Speech, Debate, and Academic team competed at the District 14 3A Contest on March 22 and 23, 2012.

The following students earned medals:
Zach Berberich 1st in Persuasive Speaking and advancing to region
Josh Aubert 1st in Science and Top Score in Chemistry and advancing to region
T.J. Joiner 3rd in Number Sense and advancing to region
Alexa Paniagua 4th in News Writing and alternate to region
Kallie Ramsey 6th in Feature Writing
Hallie (Haley) Davis 6th in Ready Writing
Joe Kossack 6th in Accounting
The Accounting Team placed 2nd and is the alternate to region.

The Wills Point FFA Agriculture Mechanics team competed in two contest this past week.

The first was at San Angelo Livestock Show. The team brought three projects to the show competing against 285 other projects. Each of the projects won a blue ribbon. The first being a 3pt. hay bale unroller exhibited by Miguel Vasquez and Jess Gunter. The second being a Lamb and Goat Trimming table being exhibited by Colton Lumpkins and Justin Teel and lastly a 16' hay bale feeder being exhibited by Cody Hatley. The 16' feeder also won the show with first place in its class. This win brought in prizes such as a new welding helmet and other welding and shop supplies. After completing the show in San Angelo the team traveled to San Antonio for a much larger show. This show had over 580 entries. The lamb and goat table won third place in its class which awarded the chapter a $250.00 gift card to Airgas, the 3pt. hay bale unroller won first place in its class awarding the chapter a new Lincoln welder, welding helmet, torch kit and much more. The 16' feeder also won first place in its class awarding the chapter another new Lincoln welder, welding helmet, torch kit and much more, Please congratulate these boys when you see them there were many long hours put in while building these projects and preparing books on them. The feeder it self had approximately 200 hours for building.

May 11, 2012.
Showtime will be at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Tickets
are $4 if purchased before the show and $6 at the door. Contact Miss
Vest at the high school or any Tigerette team member for tickets; must
have a ticket for entry.

Fourteen SkillsUSA students went to Corpus Christi for the Skills USA State Leadership conference. Students from our school competed in 6 different technical contests and had 4 different exhibits. Again, our students brought back multiple state medals. This conference had over 3,000 students in attendance that competed for medals in over 95 different contests.

Kelli Miracle - silver medal in National T-shirt Design
Dmitry Fedorov - bronze medal in National T-Shirt Design
Audrey McCann - bronze medal in Advertising Design
Angel Sherrin, Kayla Moore, and Kathryn Nobles - bronze medal in Career Pathway Showcase

Khan Academy is a website of resources available to anyone. They have a large video library and practice exercises that cover K-12 math and sciences.
